LAGOS JOINT WOMEN’S GROUP ~ SMALL WORLD 2007
The theme of the evening’s event was “THE MAGIC OF MUSIC”. It was the twelfth year of Small World with twenty-four country booths, representing 50 nations hosting the evening February 11, 2007 at the British International School, Lekki, Lagos.
Apart from bringing together the international community for the evening, the main aim is to raise funds for many worthy charities who work to improve conditions of disadvantaged people throughout the country.
Money to cover the cost of the event is raised by selling advert space in the program. The income from the tickets and corporate sponsors is then donated to the various charities. Sponsors also help in kind by providing materials, manpower, etc. needed to organize the event.
N25 million was realized during this year’s Small World Celebration.
Lagos Branch’s participation in Small World enabled us to give a very generous donation to our National Project, The Braille Book Production Centre.
Get ready to be 'shaken AND stirred'! Lagos Branch member, Araceli Bing Aipoh, will soon publish her feisty book entitled No Sense of Limits:
Aipoh lures her audience into an Ancient Greek Tragedy set in 20th Century enigmatic Lagos. We witness the underbelly of our fair city and experience the elite lifestyle of the ‘crème de la crème’. In this raw, gutsy thriller the fate of four women intertwines in coils of deceit, obsession and revenge, mesmerizing you until the explosive ending.
Lagos members Glenda Masha, Melissa Chife and Eliza Chukwuma organized a Fund-raising Dinner at the Eko Meridien Hotel on September 30th to aide the devastated victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, U.S.A. The event was a solid success!
Lagos Branch held their Annual September Tea in the Exhibition Hall of the Goethe Institut on September 3rd. Once again--it was Tea-riffic! There was such a variety of exotic drinks and sumptuous confection, song, dance and camaraderie that the socializing continued until dusk. ….

The Nigerwives Braille Book Production Centre entertained over 125 guests at their 10th Anniversary Celebrations on the 14th and 15th of June.
Invitees toured a step-by-step exhibition of the production of books in Braille. Visitors challenged the visually-impaired students to board games such as Scrabble, Chess, Card Games, Ludo, etc. In most cases, the visually-impaired students beat their sighted opponents.
