Supporting the development of the communities in which we live is one of the priorities of Nigerwives. Akwa Ibom State Branch has undertaken an important project which will benefit the children and the adults all over the state --creating a Children's Park.
The physical and mental enrichment of children is important to our branch. This inspired the concept of a Children's Park. Since 1996 our members have worked relentlessly towards this objective.
The Akwa Ibom State Government provided a site in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo plus substantial financial assistance to build the perimeter fence around the park. The branch raised funds for play equipment and to erect a gatehouse.
Today the Children's Park is a reality –-being enjoyed by the local youngsters. Thanks to the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture for keeping the surroundings tidy.
When the second phase of our project is completed, it will feature a Community Hall housing a library, stage, gymnasium, dressing rooms, restrooms, a snack bar and a coffee bar. This multi-purpose hall and the grounds will host community group seminars and workshops on self-development and women's and children's issues.
